Carol Danvers has a Hard Time: Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #154– February, 1982

Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #154: "Reunion"

Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #154– February, 1982

Carol Danvers has a hard time coping with her new condition.

The issue opens with Storm and Cyclops playing together. The calm before the storm. They end with a tie and Scott graciously says that it's hard for him to have a rival much less an equal. It's nice that he doesn't add that his equal is a woman.

In outer space, Christopher Summers is on his way home to earth. A human with an alien spaceship. This is Scott's father, who now barley remembers his own son. He is on his way to Earth, but the Shi'ar are after him.

Because of the many attacks that the X-Men mansion has suffered, some of the X-Men are moving into the island that Magneto has raised from the ground. Nightcrawler however, doesn't like this place.

In top of the tower that is the X-Men's living quarters, now stands Carol Danvers. The issue states her past. She was Ms. Marvel and part of the Avengers. But, she lost her powers, her memories and almost her life when she was attacked by Rogue. She is sadden by all that she has lost and can never regain. I guess it's also hard to be a regular human surrounded by people with powers, powers you used to have as well.

Carol Danvers has a hard time dealing with her memory loss

Then Wolverine shows up. Apparently he knows Carol Danvers. She used to be in air force intelligence and he was Canadian Secret Service. He tell her that she and her partner Mike Rossi got into all sorts of trouble together. This makes her visibly upset. She doesn't remember Wolverine or Rossi. She used to be in love with Rossi, she had a picture of him in her apartment even after she left the army, but now she can't even remember how he looks like. She only remembers that she used to love him, but now she feels nothing.

She immediately regrets her outburst. At the same moment, Kitty shows up at the wrong moment telling Wolverine that the professor needs him. He wants to stay with Danvers but she sends him away.

Scott and Storm are still in the X-Men mansion. In the middle of a conversation a spaceship crushes into the nearby lake. They find the pilot in the water and save him. I think that Storm knows that he is Scott's father.

We get a flashback to what happened to Scott's family. They were in a burning airplane. Scott's mother, Anne gave Scott's their only parachute and put his little brother, Alex, safely in his arms. They were swept away into space. His wife died, but he survived.

In the present, Scott saves his father and finds an air force badge and a picture of his mother, himself and his brother. He refuses to believe that this man is his father, but Storm confirms it.

Then Corsair's (Scott's father) attackers show up and a battle starts. Scott and his father retreat to the Blackbird and Storm stays behind to buy them time. In her efforts, she creates a storm that destroyed the house completely. And they all escape on the plane, their enemies transform themselves into a massive plane and a chaise starts.

Storm creates a massive storm that dismantles the plane. However, Corsair tells Storm and Scott that these are living creators and not machines as they thought, so they refuse to kill them. So Corsair kills them all with one hit. Corsair explains that it had to be done in order to save earth. Apparently, Lilandra, the empress of the Shi'ar has been kidnapped and a false trail has been set that will lead her supporters to Earth. They could destroy the planet to save her. This is how the issue ends.

Carol Danvers meets Wolverine for the first time in this issue. Apparently they have both meet as they are both military people. However, Danvers doesn't remember his, or her former partner. She is greatly upset by this fact. Understandably so. She has lost almost her entire life. She shouldn't be nice and composed. Her reaction seems normal and expected. No one can help her and it seems Charles Xavier help has been limited as well. Only time will tell what will become of her.
