Carol Danvers has a Small, but Important Cameo: Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #153– January, 1982
Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #153: "Kitty's Fairy Tale"
We finally learn how much harm Rogue's attack caused Danvers.
The Headquarters of the X-Men has been hit in a previous issue by the Hellfire club. Now, the X-Men are cleaning up the mess and trying to figure out how to rebuild what was lost.
Inside the school, Carol Danvers is sitting with Storm, listening to her story and tending to her wounds. Most importantly we now get an official confirmation that Danvers has lost all of her powers. We also learn that she is Charles Xavier patient, meaning that he is still trying to help her recover. Her fight isn't over yet.
Afterwards, Colossus as Peter Rasputin, puts his little sister Illyana, to sleep. Kitty Pryde suggests that he will tell her a bedtime story to help her feel better. In the end though, Kitty ends up telling the story.
In the story she is a pirate and Colossus is her partner and they are both loved by the poor and the weak in the fictional New-York. They save fictional Cyclops and Charles Xavier when they are captured by robbers. In this fairy tale Cyclops is Xavier's master, they are on a journey. This fairy-tale is a very brief version of the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Princess Jean, Xavier' apprentice, allied herself with primal forces of the universe to save their kingdom from destruction, she won, but was corrupted by the dark side of her spirit.
As they tell their story, Dark Phoenix shows up and attacks the harbor which they are in. Colossus stops her flames and Xavier pulls out a round crystal that contains Jean's soul that scares the Dark Phoenix and makes her run away. Xavier needs to be close to use the crystal so Kitty summons her dragon friend, or underwater dragon friend, to help them track her.
Back in the real world Wolverine and Nightcrawler are listening to Kitty telling her story. Then Storm and Danvers walk by as well.
Now what is interesting is the shirt that Danvers is wearing. It is a nod from Ms. Marvel to the original Captain Marvel? DC's Captain Marvel was first owned by Fawcett, who got sued by DC for being too similar to Superman and eventually DC bought the company and the character, but Marvel's Captain Marvel sent them both to count with the strange result that DC can use the Captain Marvel name, but not on the cover of their issues which are called SHAZAM!
Maybe I am just jumping into conclusions and Danvers is just happened to be wearing a red shirt with a yellow lightning on it. But, maybe you can read more into it. Maybe Marvel is paying their respect to the sort of original Captain Marvel.
Storm and Danvers join Nightcrawler and Wolverine and listen to Kitty continuing her story. Now, the dragon stopped to rest on an island in which little blue teleporting creatures fall in love with her. Little creatures that awfully resemble Nightcrawler. One little creature chases away all of the others, but leave our dame feeling very uncomfortable with his affection. At the same time Colossus finds a bottle in the water and releases the spirit of Storm which was trapped inside. Sort of like a Ginny. All of the characters meet up when a new one shows up. Mean. Who looks a lot like Wolverine and is also in love with Jean. His rivalry with Cyclopes is entertaining here. The dragon shows up and stops the fight as he is interested in eating Wolverine. In the end they all ride on his back in search of the Dark Phoenix.
Suddenly, the sun turns into the Phoenix. The moment of truth is here. After an entertaining fight, the good friends win and the Dark Phoenix leaves the body which it possessed. And they all live happily ever after. That is Kitty's story. Somewhere, in some reality, Scott and Jean did live happily ever after. Scott respects the happy ending of Kitty's story.
Around Kitty's entertaining story we can see that Danvers is really close to the X-Men and is basically part of their family. It's really nice to see that. We also see that she is now a regular human with no powers, a patient. Yet her hurt does not stop her from having superhero friends. It's really nice to see.
