Carol Danvers Makes a Short Appearance: Captain Marvel #35 – November, 1974

Captain Marvel #35 – November, 1974

The last issue ended with Mar-Vell losing consciousness because he was poisoned by a nerve gas and Rick Jones was stuck in the negative zone. Now as the three hours run out, Rick Jones is back on earth and Carol Danvers, Jone's manager and his singing partner show up. Carol guessed that it was Captain Marvel who re-sealed the gas container and saved the day and the state that they're in. Jone's manager tells him that he has to go to the air force base to give an official statement. That's Carol's turf.

Carol Danvers driving Rick to the base

As they drive to the base, Rick Jones tries to communicate with Captain Marvel and to others around him it appears as though he has passed out. They decide that it must the result of the nerve gas and drive off to the hospital. Please notice here that it's Carol Danvers driving the car and not Jone's manager.

Carol Danvers laughs at Henry Pym's comment

At the hospital Dr. Henry Pym and Jen Pym arrive to medically assist Rick Jones. Carol recognizes them as part of the Avengers. Jen tells Carol: "Avengers retired! All we're doing now are 16-hour days as research scientists! Henry's response to Jen is: "Or more accurately I do that -- Jan parties!" Jen is annoyed at that comments and tell Henry that he will pay for it. And from some reason Carol laughs at their exchange. And if Jen isn't laughing, we shouldn't either, and neither should Carol.

Then we move to the villain of the week, the Living Laser which was sent by the Lunatic Legion to kill Rick Jones. The WASP and Ant-Man fight against the Living Laser, while Rick possesses Mar-Vell's body and fights against Annihilus in the negative zone. It is the WASP that eventually defeats the Living Laser by sabotaging the source of his laser, and then we discovered that he was in fact a machine. And Rick Jones also manages to defeat his enemy, Annihilus, and wakes up in the hospital.

Then Rick Jones switches places with Mar-Vell so Mar-Vell can receive the antidote. All ends well.

There is not much to say about Carol in this issue as she really doesn't do much in this issue other then drive (which is nice) and laugh at the exchange between Henry and Jen (which is annoying).
